UPI Usage Surges Across India: These States Lead the Digital Payment Revolution

The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has completely transformed the way Indians transact.
From tea stalls to pay toilets, from shopping malls to technology companies, digital payment has increased.
According to the latest data released by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the list of states that are using it the most has been revealed.
The list was released by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on the X platform.

The list of top states for UPI transactions in 2025 has been released
- Maharashtra
Maharashtra is a state with leading cities like Pune and Mumbai, with a wide range of users in the business and technology sectors, with 13.9% usage. - Karnataka
Bangalore is the second most populous state in the country with 7.73% usage among urban and tech-savvy people. - Uttar Pradesh
UPI is widely used by rural people in the most populous state. It is the third most popular state with 7.50% usage due to its high usage of government schemes. - Telangana
Telangana is the next fastest growing state after Bangalore. Telangana is the fourth most popular state in the top ten with 5.83% UPI transactions. - Tamil Nadu
Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore are the major cities with tourist and religious destinations. It is the fifth most popular state with 4.60% UPI users. - Rajasthan
The government is currently using 4.09% UPI transactions due to the government’s ongoing use of tourism and some government schemes such as Digital Rajdhan Mission, cashless grampanchayat initiative. - Madhya Pradesh
The villagers are using digital transactions from the beginning due to government incentives.
QR digital transactions are also used in railway stations and government buses.
It is ranked seventh with 3.68% UPI transactions.
- Andhra Pradesh
Cities like Amaravati and Visakhapatnam Vijayawada are accepting UPI transactions with a high number of QR transactions being used in restaurants, small traders, bus stands and nail shops.
It is ranked eighth in the ranking list with 3.65% UPI transactions.
- Bihar
Bihar has seen a surge in UPI payments in recent years, especially in cities like Patna, Muzaffarpur and Gaya.
Rural people are connecting their bank accounts to digital payments through the Jantan Yojana.
Green markets, vendors and schools are accepting UPI payments.
UPI digital payments are ranked ninth in the top ten with 3.63% UPI users.
- Delhi
Delhi is the capital city of India. From roadside vendors to auto drivers, everyone is accepting UPI QR digital payments.
Delhi is ranked tenth with 3.24% UPI users.
The main reasons for the increase in UPI money transfers are
Increased smartphone penetration,
Fast and secure money transfers
Government promotional awareness activities and
No transaction fees
Conclusion
UPI money transfers are not just about money transfers but a digital revolution.
All states are trying to embrace modern technology and financial inclusion.
There is no doubt that the future of money transactions in India will be digital.
