The Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, has resigned from his post as Vice President due to medical reasons, with his term ending in 2027.
Jagdeep Dhankhar, who took office on August 11, has resigned from his post as Vice President due to medical reasons, with his term ending in 2027. This is the first time in the history of India that a Vice President has resigned from his post during his term.
He submitted his resignation letter to President Draupadi Murmu in accordance with Articles 67(b) and 63-71 of the Constitution of India.
About Jagdeep Dhankar
Jagdeep Dhankar was born on 18 May 1951 in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan.
He completed his studies in Geography and Law in Rajasthan. He practiced as an advocate in the Supreme Court of India and the Rajasthan High Court.
Jagdeep Dhankar’s political career
Jagdeep Dhankar was elected as a member of the 9th Lok Sabha from Jhunjhunu constituency of Rajasthan in 1989.
He was the Rajya Sabha Minister for Political Affairs in the cabinet of Prime Minister Chandrashekhar in 1990.
He joined the Indian National Congress party and later joined the BJP.
He served as the Governor of West Bengal from 2019 to 2022.
Later, he was elected as the 14th President of India on 11 August 2022.
He resigned from his post yesterday evening, July 21, 2025.
Criticisms
Jakdeep Dhankar conducted the first day of the monsoon session well until 5:30 pm yesterday.
The opposition state assembly members said that he spoke well with the opposition parties during the hill hours.
The sudden resignation of his post due to physical weakness is suspicious. Is it really due to health reasons? Or are there political hands? The parties have raised questions.
