In July 2023, the electricity tariff was increased by 2.18%, and in 2024, the electricity tariff was increased by 4.83%, and the Tamil Nadu government accepted the increase in electricity tariff for households. Due to this, the power loom weavers living in Dadirpur condemned the electricity hike.
Following this, this year too, the electricity tariff will be increased by 6% or the April inflation rate, whichever is lower, and according to this, the electricity tariff will be increased by 3.16% and this tariff hike is expected to come into effect from July 1.
When asked about this, the Tamil Nadu government has not taken any decision on the electricity tariff hike. He said that since the Tamil Nadu government has signed the Union government’s Uday electricity scheme, the electricity tariff will have to be increased every year in July till 2027.
Regarding the electricity tariff hike, PMK leader Ramadoss said that the electricity tariff burden has increased due to purchasing electricity from private electricity suppliers and that the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board is facing losses and that by implementing pending electricity projects, the electricity purchased from private
can be reduced to a large extent. He has said that the Tamil Nadu government should immediately abandon the plan to increase electricity tariffs.
