Child Sexual Abuse in Tamil Nadu: Sharp Rise in POCSO Cases & Major Government Actions in 2024–2025

In the last two years alone, sexual abuse cases against children have been on the rise.

In the last week alone, two cases were resolved. While I was thinking about whether to post about this, today, news has come out that a child studying in class 4 was sexually abused in Tiruvallur district last Saturday.

Let’s take a closer look.

In Tamil Nadu alone, news has come out that more than three sexual abuse cases have been committed against children last week.

Last Saturday, the girl was staying at her grandmother’s house in the Arambakkam area near Kurumidi Poondi in Tiruvallur district and was studying in class 4. On the day of the incident, when she was returning home after finishing school, a person who had come to pick up the child’s knitting needle attacked the girl and abducted her to a nearby grove and abused her. CCTV footage has been released about this.

Following this news, 40 students have been staying at a government shelter in the Vandalur area of Chennai, out of which 18 schoolgirls have been sexually harassed by the driver of the shelter, Palani.

Mikavel, a policeman in the Thiruchendur area, has been dismissed from his post and recommended for DNA testing after he allegedly sexually assaulted a relative of his.
