Mukha Muthu, Son of Karunanidhi and Actor, Passes Away at 77 – A Look Back at His Life

Former Chief Minister, elder son of M.K. Karunanidhi and elder brother of M.K. Stalin, Mukha Muthu passed away at 8 am today due to ill health. He was 77 years old. His body was kept for public viewing at his residence in Inchambakkam area. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin visited him in person to pay his respects.

About Mukha Muthu

Mukha Muthu is the son of M.K. Karunanidhi and Padmavati. Padmavati is also the sister of famous singer Chidambaram S. Jayaraman.

Mukha Muthu was born on July 14, 1948. Mukha Muthu’s mother Padmavati died of cancer within a few hours of his birth.

Later, he grew up and started acting in films from 1970 onwards, and he had talents such as singing and acting.

Karunanidhi made him act in many austere and sentimental films because he looked like MG Ramachandran and to appoint him as his political successor, he acted in films like Pillaiya Pillai (1972), Pookaari (1973), Chailikaran (1974), Anaiyavilakku (1975), Namphamisa Nakshatham (1975), Ingeyum Manithan (1975), and All That Avalae (1977).

Later, Karunanidhi told his DMK members to start a fan club in the name of his son Mukha Muthu and made them celebrate those films with their fans after each film was released.

He wanted to create an image and acting style like MGR as an alternative to MGR and bring his son to the forefront. Knowing this, MG Ramachandran formed a new party called ADMK from DMK, and later Mukha Muthu’s films did not do well, so he stayed away from acting and politics.
