When the middle of the bridge suddenly collapsed, a car, van and lorry fell into the river, causing a major accident. In this accident, 10 people died. 6-9 people were injured. Firefighters rescued those who fell into the river.

The accident may have been caused by the bridge, which was built in 1985 and has not been properly maintained, the NIA said.

Government announcement

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the families of those who died in the accident and Rs 50,000 to those injured.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has ordered a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the accident.

The bridge is also more than 40 years old.
The structure of the bridge may have weakened due to heavy rains.
